LEADING
MILAN FORWARD -- WHAT WE STAND FOR
Keep Milan Rural
Team
Talmage supports adoption of the original Comprehensive
Plan recommendations to control sprawl and keep Milan
rural. Over 86% of Milan’s citizens say that protecting
the Town’s rural character is the most important
goal of planning. The original Comprehensive Plan works
to accomplish that goal.
We support changing the proposed ten-acre overlay so
that it starts at 20 acres.
We are listening and we will work with you to find ways
for parents to subdivide land for their children and
to promote affordable housing while preserving open
space and preventing sprawl.
We believe the Town and its citizens should have control
over development, NOT outside developers. |
Keep Taxes Low
Under
Van Talmage’s administration, taxes have been
kept at a 1% increase as compared to the previous administration’s
37% increase over 5 years.
The administrative systems of the Town have been improved
to establish new bank accounts, independently account
for components of the town budget, and improve the transaction
processing system for improved transparency and control.
Reviewing these changes, the risk examiner from the
Office of the State Controller gave the Town’s
finances a “clean bill of health”.
We will continue to run a tight and efficient government
with a balanced and prudent budget. |
Keep
Government Open and Honest
The
Talmage administration has actively recruited many people
in our community with knowledge, skills and energy to
volunteer their time on behalf of our Town. Milan’s
recently formed School Tax Research Committee, initiated
by Van Talmage, has already started to gather information
regarding the school tax issue.
We think your Town Board members should be available
to you and we support regular hours for the public to
meet with their representative.
We believe Town offices should be open and available
to the public 5 days a week, and workshops with the
supervisor and board should be reinstated.
Open meetings were started with hamlet residents for
the first time. We will continue to listen to residents. |
Keep
our Natural Resources Safe
By
creating and supporting the Conservation Advisory Council
and joining the Greenway Pact we are well on our way
to keeping Milan a place of green space, dark skies,
rolling hills and healthy wetlands.
Implementing Comprehensive Plan recommendations will
enable us to protect our water and scenic resources,
and preserve open spaces.
Managing development will help protect Milan from sprawl
that threatens to destroy our beautiful landscape and
wild habitats.
We oppose mines and other industrial commerce in residential
areas. We do not want to compromise our quality of life
for the commerce of gravel. |
Keep
Housing Affordable
All
of us want to keep housing diversified and affordable.
We want to keep Milan a place where we want to live
and our children can afford to live.
Implementing the original Comprehensive Plan with its
land use concepts can stimulate affordable housing across
the town. The tools in the plan -- Planned Purpose Development,
the Priority Growth Area, Rural Overlay Zone, and conservation
subdivisions -- work together to keep a balance in our
town of diversified and affordable housing, and to help
control tax growth.
Controlling taxes also allows us to have affordable
housing. To contain rising taxes, Milan needs to have
a plan in place to keep our town rural and manage growth. |
|
The choices in this election are very clear . . . and they
are yours to make.
We
have a plan to lead Milan forward, and to seek common ground
with our citizens as we face the future.
On
Nov. 8, vote for Team Talmage. Van Talmage, Diane May &
Ross Williams will work to:
Keep
Milan Rural and Prevent Sprawl
Keep Taxes Low
Keep Government Open and Honest
Keep Our Natural Resources Safe
Keep Housing Affordable and Diversified.
Who
do you trust to protect Milan’s future?
Talmage
